END OF LIFE SERVICES (EUTHANASIA)2017-04-13T09:48:20+00:00

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult decisions most caretakers make, and our compassionate and caring staff is standing by to make this trying time as painless as possible for you and your companion. We offer two options, owner-witnessed euthanasia and non-witnessed euthanasia.

OWNER-WITNESSED EUTHANASIA

For owners who would like to be in the room with their pet when they are euthanized, our veterinarians will schedule an appointment for the procedure. To allow you the most time with your pet and to provide a relaxed atmosphere, this appointment is scheduled as the last of the day. Please call with as much advance notice as possible to schedule, and please understand that we may not be able to provide this service on the same day.  For Berks County, you may reach us at (610) 921-VETS.  For Lancaster County, please call  (717) 826-9762.

Euthanasia fees are calculated by weight as follows:
20 lbs or less: $50, more than 20 lbs: $75

There is no additional appointment fee charged for this service.   The above fees include cremation (cremation of your pet’s remains without the return of those remains to you) or you may opt to take your companion’s remains home with you.  Fees for the private cremation services are detailed below.

NON-WITNESSED EUTHANASIA

If you would prefer not to be present when your companion is euthanized, our qualified adoption technicians will perform the procedure by appointment on weekdays. You can call (610) 921-2348 to schedule an appointment at the Humane Society of Berks County or (717) 826-9762 to schedule an appointment at the Humane League of Lancaster County. Our technicians are qualified by one of the most rigorous standards in veterinary medicine and treat your pet with the dignity and compassion that they deserve.

Euthanasia fees are calculated by weight as follows:
20 lbs or less: $50, more than 20 lbs: $75

The above fees include cremation (cremation of your pet’s remains without the return of those remains to you) or you may opt to take your companion’s remains home with you.  Fees for the private cremation services are detailed below.

INDIVIDUAL PET CREMATION SERVICES

When your pet is euthanized at one of our Humane Pennsylvania locations, you have the option to have your pet’s cremated remains returned to you in a personalized wooden box. We contract with a firm which treats your companion in the same dignified and thoughtful manner you expect from us at Humane Pennsylvania. This process takes anywhere from a few days to just over a week. Our veterinary services department will call you to pick up your pet’s remains when they are delivered.

The following fees are calculated by your pet’s weight and are in addition to the fee for the euthanasia procedure:

5 lbs or less: $30.50
6 lbs to 30 lbs: $98.00
31 lbs to 70 lbs: $129.50
71 lbs to 100 lbs: $139.50
101 lbs to 130 lbs: $159.50
131 lbs or more: $169.50
